$1.3 billion bid given to North Dakota Company
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced last week that a $1.3 billion contract to build a 43 mile stretch of border fence across the U.S.-Mexico border had been awarded to a construction company based out of North Dakota. The stretch of the border goes through mountainous terrain, leading to the high building cost. According to North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer, the company bid the lowest cost to complete the project.
The construction’s start date is not yet in place. In total, President Trump has pledged to build over 450 miles of wall along the border by the end of 2020 and has already built 187 miles to date. The new stretch of the wall will be painted black at the president’s request according to Senator Cramer. He went on to say that the black wall will absorb more heat making it more difficult for people to climb.
